Apache on Windows XP

Ok, a ver que tal sale.
Pues me estoy aburriendo que mi vida cybernetica este totalmente apagada. En cierta forma es que la chamba no me deja (para variar, hasta el cuello). Pero ademas, es que apesar de que hay tantos servicios de website gratuitos (todavia tengo mi www.benumea.com en yahoo servers), los limites de bandwidth por dia no me dejan mandar realmente poner algo para distribuir.. y no es que tenga muchos visitantes, pero si quiero poner algunos videos, sobre todo de el mini-gordo... y 1 sola visita se comeria el ancho de banda del dia.

Ademas soy muy flojo para estar subiendo archivos y videos a diferentes servidores, para distribuir dicho ancho de banda... y soy muy codo para pagar por un servicio de hosting... y ultimadamente se supone que soy experto en esto!

Asi que estoy dejando a geocities solamente como mi portal, y pienso poner mi propio web server en mi maquinita, arriesgandome a un hacker de 13 anios sin nada mejor que hacer a que me la ataque y me la tumbe... je... aunque realmente dudo que se tomen la molestia...

Pues a ver que tal sale.
Y como Microsoft Windows XP no soporta el Personal web server (PWS), he decido instalar un servidor mucho mas robusto, y en cierta, forma, con el que inicie... ya que mi primera pagina web estaba en un servidor unix que corria apache...

Pues bueno, Apache... lo acabo de bajar de http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/
Me tomo unos 3 minutos bajarlo e instalarlo (gracias, roadrunner).

Y el primer mensaje que obtengo al hacer http://localhost/ ...

"¡Funcionó! ¡El Servidor de Red Apache ha sido instalado en ese sitio!"

Como diria mi bebé... "Wow..."
Ya está corriendo y esto parece demasiado fácil para ser verdad.

Una cosa que me choca es que no me pregunten el idioma... por que asumen que tienen el derecho de instalar todo en español? Y no es que sea malinchista, pero es más fácil entender los términos informáticos en su lenguaje nato.

"Servidor de Red Apache" en lugar de "Apache Web Server"
"Nuevas funcionalidades en distribución 2.0" en lugar de "What's new in 2.0 release?"
"Direcciones IP y puertos de escucha" en lugar de "Binding"

o sea... sí... pero no manchen.

Anyway... ahora solo queda configurar poner un par de páginas y veremos que tal.

PD... por hacer un experimento, hoy quería dejar la traducción a Inglés a Altavista. It really sucks, así que mejor la hice manual... yo creo firmemente que los traductores automáticos algun día serán realidad... not yet though...

Ok, here goes nothing.

I became bored of my cyberlife being totally extinguished. In a way it is that my work does not leave me time (nothing new, I'm swamped). But besides, even though there are so many free website hostings (I still have my www.benumea.com in a yahoo server), the limit of bandwidth per day does not really let me... and it is not that it has many visitors, but if I want to put some videos, mainly of the mini-gordo (or little fat, literal translation)... and 1 single visit would eat the bandwidth of the day.

Besides, I am very lazy to be uploading files and videos to different servants, to distribute bandwidth... and I am very cheap to pay for a service of hosting... and ultimately I'm supposed to be an expert on this!

So, I'm leaving geocities as my point of entry... and I though on putting my own web server in my pc... risking that a 13-year-old-with-nothing-better-to-do-hacker brings down my pc... although I really doubt that they would bother... here goes nothing.

And as Microsoft Windows XP does not support the Personal web server (PWS), I have decided to install a but a much robust server, and by the way, the one where I started... since my first Web page was hosted in a UNIX server running apache...

So, I download it from http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/binaries/win32/ and in about 3 minutes is downloaded and installed (thanks roadrunner).
And the first message that I obtain when typing http://localhost/...

"It worked! The Network server Apache has been installed in that site "

Like diria my baby... "Wow..."

It is already running and this seems too easy to be truth. Something I hate is that you are not prompted for language... so they assume that they have the right to install everything in Spanish?
And it is not that I don't like spanish, but it is easier to understand the computer science terms in its native language.

...terrible.

Anyway... all that is left is to put some pages... and we'll see.

PS... to make an experiment, today I decided to leave the translation to English to Altavista. It really sucked and I corrected it manually... I believe firmly that the automatic translators some day will be a reality... not yet though...
